Description
In a genus thought of mostly as winter climate, this native California species is more accustomed to Mediterranean climes, most often found growing in western chaparral. To an eventual 8 to 10 feet, with deep green oval leaves, surprisingly long white bell-shaped flowers and yellow fall color. Grown in habitats similar to western redbud, this beauty is accustomed to long dry summers and can go summer deciduous when very dry. In its natural habitat often burns and resprouts from the base. Happy in both sun and shade, and appreciates well-draining soil with occasional deep deep watering. Hardy to USDA zone 6. In our opinion, the most attractive of the genus.
