Description

Holiday Avocado trees, scientifically classified as Guatemalan A-type avocado trees, are prized for their exceptional productivity and delectable fruits. If you’re considering adding these trees to your garden, here’s everything you need to know about growing and caring for them:

Due to hot summer temperatures, we have temporarily suspended tree shipments to the states of NM, TX, OK, NV and AZ. Shipping to these states will resume in the fall once temperatures subside to levels consistent with safe healthy tree shipment. Shipments to other states will require expedited shipping during the summer months.Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prioritize the protection of your order.

Productivity and Fruit Characteristics:

  • Holiday Avocado trees are renowned for their high productivity, consistently yielding abundant harvests of delicious avocados.
  • The fruit of the Holiday Avocado is pear-shaped, typically weighing between 18 to 24 ounces.
  • One notable characteristic of Holiday Avocado fruit is its vibrant green color, which holds well on the tree until maturity.

Ripening Season and Name Origin:

  • The Holiday Avocado earned its name due to the timing of its fruit ripening, which occurs between Labor Day and New Year’s Day.
  • This extended harvest season provides a unique opportunity for enjoying fresh avocados during the holiday season, hence the name “Holiday Avocado.”

Frost Sensitivity and Climate Considerations:

  • It’s crucial to note that Holiday Avocado trees are sensitive to frost, with temperatures below 30F posing a risk to their health.
  • Therefore, these trees are best suited for regions with mild winters, where frost occurrences are rare or easily mitigated.

Tree Size and Growth Habit:

  • At maturity, Holiday Avocado trees typically reach heights of 12 to 18 feet, with a width of around 10 feet.
  • They exhibit a relatively short stature and tend to have a weeping growth habit as they mature, adding a unique aesthetic appeal to garden landscapes.

Planting Options:

  • Holiday Avocado trees can be planted both in-ground and in containers, offering flexibility for gardeners with various space constraints.
  • Whether you have a spacious garden or limited outdoor area, these trees can be a beautiful addition to your landscape.

Rootstock and Grafting:

  • Holiday Avocado trees are commonly grafted onto Mexican Seedling rootstock, which imparts desirable qualities such as vigor and disease resistance to the tree.
  • This grafting method ensures that the resulting trees exhibit optimal growth and fruiting characteristics.

Care and Maintenance:

  • Provide your Holiday Avocado tree with well-draining soil and ample sunlight for optimal growth and fruit production.
  • Regular watering is essential, especially during periods of drought or hot weather, to keep the soil consistently moist.
  • Mulching around the base of the tree can help retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth, promoting overall tree health.
  • Pruning may be necessary to shape the tree and remove dead or damaged branches, promoting better air circulation and sunlight penetration.

Growing Holiday Avocado trees can be a rewarding experience, offering both aesthetic beauty and a bountiful harvest of delicious fruits. By providing the right growing conditions and care, you can enjoy the seasonal delight of fresh avocados from your own garden during the holiday season.

These trees, measured from the top of the root ball, are 18-36 tall, with a trunk diameter between 1/4-1/2 inch. The trees are 12-18 months old and should start bearing fruit in their 5th year. They are planted in a 5×12″ growers pot. Within a month of delivery we suggest repotting into a larger (10″-12″ diameter) container or planting directly in the ground.
