Description
Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Germaine’s Gyration’
Large Cascading Germaine’s Gyration Contorted Laceleaf Japanese Maple
Zones 5-9
Germaines Gyration is an excellent pendulous dissectum that has an unusual twisting growth habit. This Japanese maple tree selection naturally contorts as it grows creating very intricate spirals. This unique effect is magnified by the lateral branching.
Germaines Gyration has a larger leaf than most laceleaf Japanese maples reaching 10 ft in height by 15 ft in width in 20 years. Early spring color is a light green which merges to bright shades of yellow and orange throughout the autumn months.
This Japanese maple was named after Germaine Iseli and has also been known as “Contorta” because of its unique contorting habit. Germaine’s Gyration is one of the quickest growing of the cascading laceleaf types. For those wanting a focal point with a true large specimen Japanese maple in the their garden, this is a perfect tree for you.
The main photo for ‘Germaine’s Gyration’ is an old specimen in the gardens of Bill and Kristin Taylor of Spartanburg, SC.
