Description
Azalea ‘Koromo shibiku’ Purple Spider Blooming Azalea
Evergreen Azalea-
Kurume / R. macrosepalum Hybrid
Zones 6-9
‘Koromo shikibu is quite a unique azalea. The purple-lavender blooms are spider-like, hence the spider azalea name. The blooms are long and thin and since these feather-like blooms are often clustered together, this untraditional plantmakes it hard to tell where one bloom ends and another begins. This creates an amazing display that is sure to grab everyones attention and become a talking point in your garden. Koromo shikibu may reach 3-4 ft in height by 4-5 ft in width in 10 years with an overall upright habit. Koromoshikibu is sometimes listed as a Kurume hybrid, however, it is likely a rhododendron macrosepalum hybrid. In 2015 Koromo shikibu was given the Rhododendron of the Year by the American Rhododendron Society.
