‘Tollgate is alargefruiting selection of American pawpaw with a good banana-like sweet taste. Mid spring flowers develop into fruit for the fall. Tollgate has a typical ripening stage, ripening between thesecondandthird weeks of October. ‘Tollgate’ is considered a mid-season producer. Tollgate’ was a selection by Tollgate Gardens and Nursery (formally Corwin Davis Nursery) of Michigan. The fruit is highly desired by fruit aficionados, native plant enthusiasts and homesteaders. Fall color on pawpaw trees is a bright golden yellow adding some garden interest to this edible ornamental. Tollgate may reach 15 ft in height and width in 10 years. For best pollination and a large crop of fruit, it is recommended to plant multiple types of cultivars or seedlings in an area.
