Acer monspessulanum is a hardy maple tree with small leaves from the Mediterannean. The small green leaves and compact shrubby structure of this maple give it a unique appearance. Fall color is typically a golden yellow. While hardiness of this rare maple is listed as zone 5-6, this selection was propagated off a selection that survived well in Texas in a Zone 9. The latin term “Monspessulanum” means “from Montpellier” as in the south of France where this species is found in naturally. Typically matures to 12-15 ft.
